11 out of 100. It is car dependent. It seems that this would be a very traditional score for most suburban areas in the country.

That thing kind of sucks. It measures distance "as the crow flies" so if you live half a mile across a lake from a bunch of stuff, but you have to drive around the lake for 30 minutes to get there, it will still give you a high walkablity score.

Oh, it also doesn't account for public transportation, which isn't exactly the definition of "walkable," but it does allow you to be car free.

Also, it says San Fran is more walkable than NYC?! That's crazy.

BTW, my neighborhood got 83/100: very walkable.

Mike, obviously this doesn't consider public transpo it's more for walking/biking and people who want to avoid riding buses/trains everywhere.

What I find interesting is nearly every "walkable" neighborhood represents the most expensive neighborhood to live in, in that city. For example Soho/Tribeca in NY, Core in San Diego, Pearl District in Portland, Center City West in Philly, these are all expensive areas to live and buy into. So you have to have a lot of money to begin with to live in a walkable neighborhood. (with the exception of Downtown LA which is still inexpensive and grimy but getting expensive.)
