UNINTENTIONAL COMEDY ALERT: LEVEL ORANGE - "Precious"

Chris and I went to see "Capitalism: A Love Story" the other night and were greeted with this trailer for "Precious", presented by Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. I thought "Notorious" came out last year?

The We Has Spoken Alert System:

RED (severe): guaranteed career-spoiling unintentional comedy, theater attendance is required on opening weekend
ORANGE (high): very likely career threat to a film legend (in this case new talent), damage may be very difficult to overcome, theater attendance is highly recommended
YELLOW (elevated): trailer may hint at career-jeopardizing lines and performances but may contain all the film actually has, dvd screening is acceptable

Anyone else see the humor and similarities between these two clips?

UNINTENTIONAL COMEDY ALERT - LEVEL RED: Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino"

WHS has posted this urgent advisory for Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino". The advisory has been classified as a RED ALERT, meaning the threat to Eastwood's legacy is severe, and that a WHS field trip to the Court Street 12 is mandatory.

Note that he says "get off my lawn". This may be a tribute to Harrison Ford's disgracefully hilarious "get off my plane" from "Air Force One" (clip follows Eastwood trailer).

"Get Off My Lawn!"

"Get Off My Career!"

"You're a Bush, Act Like One!"

Oliver Stone's "W" is going to be this year's "The Passion of the Christ" when it comes to the promise of unintentional comedy. There have been grumblings about the timing of this film's release date being right around election day (Lionsgate's site just mentions Fall 2008 whereas I have read the possibility of either October 17 or October 31 - my query to the studio hasn't been answered) but from a "strike while the iron's hot" perspective, you can't ask for this to come at a better time. The President is simply scorching right now and perhaps from a studio perspective, this film can't come out soon enough. The guy didn't even take the short flight to go to his own party's convention. Whether he was welcome or not is besides the point. His presence in itself is widely considered to be so radioactive that there are certainly more than a few Republicans that were relieved that he didn't make the trip to Minnesota. It's not a hard call, but I rate George W. Bush, both the fictitious account of him played by Josh Brolin and the real Bush, as a "strong buy" if you want solid returns on your comedic investments.

Ya'll Wanna See a Dead Body???

"Ya'll wanna see a dead body" is the most underrated quote in the history of film. We thank John Singleton's "Boyz n the Hood" for this multi-purpose line. Examples of how we may use this line conversing with others in everyday life -

1: (before going out with friends and declaring that you'll get really hammered)
Ya'll wanna see a dead body?

2: (knowing that wife or girlfriend will be upset at you for something, right before you walk into the house)
Ya'll wanna see a dead body?

3: (before eating a whole or half chicken)
Ya'll wanna see a dead body?

4: (right after very angry boss calls you for a meeting and just before you leave your desk, ask colleagues)
Ya'll wanna see a dead body?

Fast forward to 1:50 if you can't watch the whole thing

W at the Beijing Games!

George W. Bush is in China again and I'm preparing for another round of unintentional comedy. His Asian trips have been second in humor only behind his trips to Africa. All politics aside, I'm beginning to really miss this guy, as neither Barack Obama nor John McCain will be able to provide us with that perfect blend of overconfidence, awkwardness and occasional bitterness - the ultimate recipe for classic youtube clips.

This is an older highlight but amongst the thousands of other W follies, this one may have been lost in the mix. So, in honor of his trip to the Olympics, here it is again (and please note 30 seconds into the clip where he stands at attention for no reason, I think he's actually getting ready to bow, but realizes just how incorrect and possibly racist that may appear and just stops himself).

Nothing Witty Here, Just Clips That Make Me Laugh

CLIP 1: Missile Dropkick From Top Of Car
Note: Simultaneous screams of horror, very loud footsteps on car and Larry Holmes' white tracksuit.

CLIP 2: If He Dies, He Dies
Note: On top of being really gangster, this is a phrase that may be used in every day situations, ie "Jim can't come out tonight. Whatever, if he dies, he dies."

CLIP 3: Modified Select Dental Commercial
Note: This guy beat us to the punch in spoiling this ad. It's tremendous work.

CLIP 4: Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm Cover
Note: Equal parts hilarious and chilling, only the first few seconds are worth it.

CLIP 5: Daniel Larusso on the Worst Date Ever
Note: Best part, starting around 1:40, thug Dennis is so disgusted Daniel hasn't signed the paperwork to enter the next all-Valley tournament that he uses an inexplicable method we call 'the claw' to destroy a rice paper screen. A completely disproportionate amount of energy expended to rip something that only needed a slight tear makes this pure gold. The whole clip is a decent investment of your time.
